Pakistan seals the series with Imam-ul-Haq’s ton

Pakistan cricket team won the third ODI match against Sri Lanka and sealed the series 3-0 in a five-match series. This is the first ODI series for Pakistan after the Champions Trophy and they will feel much relieved after their loss in the Test series to Sri Lanka 2-0.

Pakistan successfully chased down the target of 209 with the loss of only three wickets. It was the debutant Imam-ul-Haq who was just brilliant on his debut and scored a chanceless and flawless century. He was tested by the Sri Lankan offspinner Akila Dananjaya in parts, however, he batted with ease throughout his innings. He neutralized almost all the Sri Lankan spinners by coming down the pitch and wasn’t afraid of hitting in the air. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq scored 78 runs in the opening partnership and provided the platform Pakistan team desperately needed in the chase of a modest total. Babar Azam ‘s score of 30 runs and Muhammad Hafeez’s 34 runs not out then steadied the Pakistani ship in the chase.

Hassan Ali’s career best 5-34 and Shadab Khan’s 2-37 bowl out Sri Lanka for 208. Hassan Ali provided the breakthrough’s whenever he was brought back in to the attack by the Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed. Shadab Khan took the crucial wickets of Sri Lankan captain Upul Tharanga and Dinesh Chandimal at the time when they were looking to build the Sri Lankan inning but wickets put breaks on Sri Lankan innings. Junaid Khan and Muhammad Hafeez bowled economically and took one wicket a piece.

This loss was the tenth consecutive loss in ODI’s for Sri Lankan team that derailed them in the ODI series. Sri Lankan team looked good on occasions but after the wicket of Upul Tharanga they collapsed once again and none of the Sri Lankan batsmen looked in control and scored big runs.

On the opposing side, Pakistan team secured their seventh consecutive win in ODI’s and sealed the series. Pakistani spinners bowled economically in the middle overs and seam-bowling group took wickets at the crucial moments in the game.
