Pakistan lost the Test series to visitors but came back very strongly in ODI series and secured a 5-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka. Pakistan team successfully chased down a target of 104 runs for the loss of only one wicket of Fakhar Zaman, and didn’t take full 50 overs to outclass Sri Lanka in the last match of the ODI series that was played at Sharjah cricket stadium, Sharjah on October 23.

Pakistan was asked to bowl first when Sri Lankan captain Upul Tharanga won the toss in the last ODI. Pakistan fast bowler Usman Khan was given the responsibility of opening the bowling with pacer Junaid Khan, who demolished the Sri Lankan innings with his five wickets in first 21 balls of his bowling quota, and finished 5-34 in 7 overs. Usman Khan showed a lot of aggression and bowled very fast in good landing areas of the pitch. This performance from Usman Khan has left the doors open for his selection in the upcoming matches, however, Pakistan selection committee will have a daunting task of selecting the best seam-bowling group. Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan shared four wickets between them in 10.2 overs and conceded 43 runs.

Pakistan team started their chase with Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman. Imam was watchful in the beginning of the innings but got easy later in the innings and scored 45 runs not out. Fakhar Zaman on the other hand played his natural game and hit 7 boundaries in his innings of 48 at a strike rate of approximately 102. Pakistan successfully chased down the target in 20.2 overs for the loss of one wicket and completed the whitewash 5-0.

Sri Lankan batsmen inconsistency showed once again and none of the top batsmen showed resistance to the fiery bowling of Usman Khan. They experimented with Samarawickrama at the top of the order and moved Dickwella at five down the order, but both Samarawickrama and Dickwella got out without scoring a run. The highest score came from Perera who scored 25 runs and three of the Sri Lankan batsmen got out without scoring a run.

After the collapse, Sri Lankan bowlers in the absence of Gamage and Lakmal managed to take only one wicket. Pakistan team easily chased down the target and completed a 5-0 whitewash in a five-match ODI series.
