Rangpur Riders clinched a thriller in the last over of the match against Sylhet Sixers. Earlier, Rangpur Riders captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to field yet again given the fact that his side couldn’t chase on last three occasions in current Bangladesh Premier League 2017.
Rangpur Riders made some changes in their side and the changes proved positive in the light of the todays’ match outcome. Nazmul Islam was announced the man of the match in todays’ match who bowled with good economy rate and took three crucial wickets.
Rangpur Riders side was going briskly in the chase when Baz (Brendon McCullum) and Ziaur Rahman were in partnership. They scored 36 and 43 runs respectively and the innings scoring run rate was nearly 12 runs per over. However, it all came down to the last over of the match when Rangpur Riders successfully completed the chase with two bowls to spare in the innings.
Sylhet Sixers also made a few changes to their side in the hope to win and climb up the table, but didn’t succeed. The inclusion of experienced all-rounder Sohail Tanvir in the side didn’t do them any good as he only could take one wicket and was very expensive. The only highlight of the Sylhet Sixers side was Babar Azam and Sabbir Rahman who scored 54 and 44 runs respectively at brisk rates. Ross Whiteley who was also included in the side managed to score some quick runs in the end and lifted the score to a respectable total of 173 runs which proved insufficient at the end.
Rangpur Riders will feel confident going in to the last three matches of the Bangladesh Premier League. They are already in the top four in the points table, but it can change as the other teams are also in the run for the top four spots.
On the other hand, this loss marked their sixth consecutive loss in the league and a second loss to Rangpur Riders in the current BPL 2017. Sylhet Sixers may come back strongly to finish the league on high, but will that be enough for them to reach up the ladder is a big question that only the time will tell.
